Tim Smith

Platform Development

After gaining a degree in Computer Science, Tim spent nine years teaching in a number of secondary schools in Wales.  For the majority of his time teaching, Tim led a highly successful team of teachers delivering vocational ICT qualifications, and reached the level of Associate Assistant Headteacher before leaving teaching.  He has also spent a number of years as an examiner and moderator for one of the UK's largest awarding bodies, and has at various times led teams of moderators, and been principal examiner for an A level module.

With a sound background in teaching, assessment, and programming, Tim's focus is on developing and delivering platforms that enable and assist learning rather than inhibit it.  Having spent a large proportion of his teaching career delivering vocational courses, Tim understands the importance of identifying the needs of learners as well as the needs of the wider business, and believes strongly in the importance of CPD.  Tim believes in using technology as a tool to improve the performance of businesses - yours and ours - which is why he regularly works with colleagues to develop new online tools and enhance existing tools to help them, such as file review tools, CPD recording tools, and many others.

Tim is responsible for building the code behind The OBELISK and The Aviva Development Zone and spends his time building new features and improving the resilience and speed of the platform.
